Reflection #2

Chapter two was an interesting read about an all girls school that was implementing the use of laptops to help make their girls "stronger" and as a part of developing the "whole student".  Parents and teachers had some concerns about the readily accessibility of the Internet.  Some feared that the students would sneak around and do things that they were not suppose maybe on some of the sites that are on the word art that I chose to include.  I will have to admit that I have been guilty of surfing the web while listening to a boring inservice that did not apply to me.  Schools can place blocks on sites like these to ensure that they are not temptations for the students.  Kids these days are so technologically advanced, that they sometimes find ways around the block.

I have to admit that I am an old school learner.  I need to take notes, by actually writing, because I remember it best that way.  I need to have the least amount of distractions as possible.  I guess this is impart, because I am not a multi-tasking millennial!

  1. I agree with you Tina, I do better when I take notes and write things down. Yet I am one of those multi-tasking millennials lol. I have been guilty of surfing while trying to listen if it does not pertain to me yet I also do it to try and get a deeper understanding of a topic that has been brought up during a class or lecture. You are exactly right, kids today are so technologically advanced that they can bypass internet blocks.

  2. Yes, I remember information so much better when I take notes by hand! I wonder if using laptops might be a negative thing for kinesthetic/tactile learners? It made me laugh when you brought up kids getting around blocks, because my students taught me how to get around the YouTube, Pandora, etc. They are sometimes too smart for the system!
