National Geographic for Kids

This is a great site that my students love!   I have used this site on numerous occasions.  I have used it for reading materials, research, writing examples, and science lessons, instructional videos, experiments, and games.  One of the things that I love most about this site is the interactions.  The students can cast votes for a variety of things embedded in the site.  They can watch real life videos of exotic and tame animals.   Kids can listen to recordings of the sounds that animals make.  Students can read text about animals that is written on their levels.  This site is forever changing, so kids never seem to get bored with it!

This site is appealing for a variety of age groups.  A lot of the material does not require reading, because it is presented in video format, therefore the youngest learners will enjoy this site.  Some of the videos may not be suitable for all ages due to the violent natures of some animals portrayed.  Therefore, adult supervision is advised for younger viewers.

  1. I also love this site! The interactive portions are wonderful. My students love to play the interactive games and they learn so much from the videos.

  2. I have never used this website, but would imagine that it has social studies/geography connections as well. I like that it features both written content and videos, so even the younger kids can learn from it. I wonder if this would also be a great resource for ESL students. I am always looking for videos with CC for my ESL kids.

  3. I use this website because it is so interactive and I know if I want to research a topic that it will be student centered, especially the videos. If a child asks me how is a tornado or hurricane made, I can go straight here and help them have a visual understanding about just that.
